What's happening at New England Yoga Festival?

There have been some inquiries and curious minds that have encouraged the schedule to be published even in its incomplete form. We are sharing now, and evolving out loud.

 

Below you will find the rough draft. This outlines some of the events on each day, but not yet what time they will be hosted. This is also not the complete list! There's more than meets the eye.  There are additional events pending and will be added in real time. 

This is an offering. It's perfectly imperfect. This process requires the grace of our beautiful yoga community and the recognition that we all are doing the best we can.

*When will the schedule be published?

    >>The schedule of events is in the final stages of editing. We have nearly all the classes listed on the Event site (click button above). The finishing touches are in motion as all participants are double checking to make sure we nailed it! 

*Can I pre-purchase services and workshops?

     >>YES! In August, we invite you to save your spot in workshops or book your services in advance. This is encouraged but not demanded. You can certainly wait until you arrive at the event to sign up. However, some events have limited capacity and are first come first served. We encourage you to reserve your spot if there's a specific workshop or class you are hoping to attend, or pampering you'd like to receive. Click here to see limited access events and sign up:

Introduction to Yin Yoga

Please join Stephen Bourque for an introductory class of Yin Yoga. This first class will be a beginner style yoga class introducing you to some of the themes and poses of Yin yoga. Yin yoga is a relatively modern style of yoga that was developed around the late 20th century, primarily through the teachings of Paul Grilley. Since its inception, Yin yoga has expanded, developed, and progressed into its own distinct form of Yoga practice. Philosophically it explores many Ancient Chinese practices such as Taoism, Buddhism, Traditional Chinese Medicine and more! Yin poses are held for longer durations of time and ask the practitioner to find comfortable levels of stress in each pose which in turn helps to target the health and rehabilitation of connective tissue (fascia, ligaments, tendons, etc.). Yin yoga is a complementary practice to more active styles of activity (such as vinyasa yoga, weight lifting, running, etc.) and explores varying styles of meditation and breathwork which aim to cultivate more yin-like qualities (stillness, quietude, receptivity, etc.). Please join Stephen as we move through a yin sequence in a calming, nurturing, and accepting atmosphere!

Yoga Nidra is the practice and art of Yogic Sleep. It is a form of guided meditation in which the body profoundly relaxes. It is an effective method for relieving stress, feeling the peacefulness of relaxation, healing and restoring the body, and quieting the mind. It can be helpful in the aid of sleep, stress, and energy. Receive deep rest and restoration in the extremely healing practice that is done entirely lying down. This practice will focus on accessing the seven main chakra spaces, providing opportunities for observance, nourishment, and contemplation. Please wear comfortable clothes, dress in layers, bring any props such as blankets or blocks so you can rest relax in a comfortable position.

Gentle Yoga for Every Body

Gentle Yoga Flow offers a combination of asana poses, combined with breathwork, and energy work, all with nurturing, loving kindness and compassion for the body.  This class is offered for all bodies, and every body.  It will include seated and standing poses, some held for periods of time, and other times with a gentle flow, one breath per movement.  Gentle Yoga allows us to focus on slow, thoughtful movements, connecting the body, breath, and mind.  Please bring a mat and a water bottle and any props you need for your practice.

Group Reiki Offering

A gentle hour long Reiki session will be offered to students at the festival.  The offering will start with a centering activity, a group invitation to lead into Savasana, and then Kaiulani will be offering hands-off and hands on Reiki to students. The offering will conclude with a gentle wake-up and centering. Kaiulani is a Usui Reiki I and II facilitator who has been offering Reiki in group and private sessions since 2020.  Most notably Kaiulani can be found offering yoga and Reiki at Nourish Mind Body and Soul, Embodied Directions and the Maine Organic Farmer's Association Fair.

Reiki is an ancient Japanese healing technique that utilizes energy to promote relaxation, reduce stress and bring the body back into optimal balance.  Learn the history of Reiki and become certified to perform Reiki on yourself, others, animals, objects and your environment.  This Level 1 Certification is open to anyone aged 16 or older.  No prior experience is necessary.  This training is generally priced at $150; take advantage of this special festival pricing.

Chinese/Traditional East Asian medicine is one of the oldest forms of healthcare. Acupuncture and is a subset of Chinese/Traditional East Asian medicine, and represents an organizational system that has a 3,000 year old history. The field of Acupuncture medicine has a robust history in the United States. It is widely used across the globe and is among the primary forms of medicine for much of the world’s population. Acupuncture is currently used for treatment of both chronic and acute pain. Uses include post-operative and chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting, postoperative dental pain, myofascial pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, tennis elbow, and menstrual cramps. Moreover, acupuncture is effective for chronic pain in conditions related to neck pain, back pain, low back pain, headaches, knee osteoarthritis, and shoulder pain with effects persisting over time. Community acupuncture is a way of practicing acupuncture with the goal of reaching as many people as possible. Community acupuncture treatments are offered in a setting where multiple patients receive treatment at the same time in a common space, sitting in recliner chairs. The presence of people who are focused inwards, help others do the same. Similarly to yoga classes or group meditations, there is peace and healing in group practices. Experiences are better when shared. Please wear loose and comfortable clothing. Once you are comfortable in the chair you like, we will generally ask you to take off your shoes and socks, roll your pants up to your knees and your sleeves up to your elbows. Most conversations happen at the whisper level because there will most likely be at least another person resting at the same time. After the acupuncturist places the needles, your job is to relax. You can stay for as long as you would like. Most people stay between 30 minutes and one hour.

Family Yoga

Practicing Yoga together creates a special bond between family members.  This class will focus on parents and children practicing yoga together in fun ways using songs, poses, and breathing techniques.  Activities will focus on children aged 4 - 8, though younger children and older children will still benefit from participation with the family.  As this class is meant to have families work together, parents are required to engage in the practice with their children.  No previous experience necessary and all ages are welcome.

Yin yoga is a relatively modern style of yoga that was developed around the late 20th century, primarily through the teachings of Paul Grilley. Since its inception, Yin yoga has expanded, developed, and progressed into its own distinct form of Yoga practice. Philosophically it explores many Ancient Chinese practices such as Taoism, Buddhism, Traditional Chinese Medicine and more! Yin poses are held for longer durations of time and ask the practitioner to find comfortable levels of stress in each pose which in turn helps to target the health and rehabilitation of connective tissue (fascia, ligaments, tendons, etc.). Yin yoga is a complementary practice to more active styles of activity (such as vinyasa yoga, weight lifting, running, etc.) and explores varying styles of meditation and breathwork which aim to cultivate more yin-like qualities (stillness, quietude, receptivity, etc.). Cultivating Compassion: Yin forms of Meditation through Yin Yoga

Meditation, like Yoga itself, comes in many shapes, forms, and styles. Yin meditation is a more unstructured and free flowing meditative practice much like Yin yoga itself. Borrowing elements from Taoism and teachers such as Jason Siff and Josh Summers, we will explore the practice of yin yoga itself and cultivating and practicing the concept of Yin meditation. In order to fully understand the difference between aspects of meditative practice we will also move through a few yang styles of meditation. One of the primary goals of yin meditation is to meet our minds as they are and through doing this cultivate, over time, more compassion for our minds and the way they change, function, and move through the world. This workshop will include a brief overview of meditative styles, an introduction and class theme structured around yin meditation as well as a 90 minute yin practice.
